The Unique Urination of Cicadas
Просмотров 79 тыс.3 месяца назад
Unlike other small insects and mammals, cicadas urinate in jets (and not bubbles). By learning more about the critter's unique urination, Georgia Tech researchers say the findings could be used to create better robots and small nozzles. For more info: research.gatech.edu/feature/cicada-urination

Georgia Tech's Mechanical Mascot - The Ramblin' Wreck
Просмотров 7046 месяцев назад
Nearly two decades before Buzz stepped foot on Grant Field, a 1930 Model A Ford - the Ramblin’ Wreck - became the official symbol of Georgia Tech. The student body and administration wanted a mechanical mascot to represent our engineering culture and the Model A seemed to be the perfect engineering marvel for the job. It set a new standard in its time ... just like our students and alumni conti...

Georgia Tech Surprises Early Admits at Drew Charter School
Go Jackets! This is better than a shot of espresso!
1:44 boy is cute
My dream school!! Hopefully I’ll be class of 2030
You got this!!! Its definitely competitive but talk with your advisor and even if you don't get in at first you can transfer in and still have a great experience! Good luck preparing and think big!
This is why I love Georgia Tech. An institute dedicated to envision, develop, and implement the systems and technologies that will construct a better future and reach new horizons. Go Jackets! Hope to be there one day!!!
Out of all of them, he was my favorite. Incredible pilot and astronaut.
It's all fun and game until the Cicadas figure out that a lot of Humans are weirdos and enjoy being peed on.
The more ya know
Yes, but I didn’t like his comment when he touched down on the moon, “Piece of cake” This I think undermined the others who risked their lives flying to the moon and made light of the greatness of the other missions.
How does it undermine anyone when he took the same risks, accomplished the same feats?? Pretty sure Young can say whatever he wants about space travel because he's literally done it all... You and I? Not so much...try to stay in your lane....
Congratulations to All!!!👍👍👍
They peed nonstop 😂
I'm Ethiopian student for material science and engineering. Biomedical science is the brach of material science engineering?
Everybody grab your umbrellas before you go to any wooded area!!! My friends & I were definitely getting pissed on last night on the patio under the trees 😂😂 I guess I’m a little relieved it is pee afterall & not their “love juices” from mating, like I was afraid of 🫣😅
Same thing happened to me haha
Nasty thang
Actually, if we weren't so far apart, I would like you to try exoskeletons with a very close friend of mine. He is a senior industrial engineer. Unexpectedly, he suffered a general paralysis as a result of a blood clot and can barely move. I think he can come back to life with an exoskeleton. I wish there was such a chance. I wish you success in your project.
Dr. Young, most impressive work and laboratory, great colleagues as well. Congratulations.
This is amazing and impactful research. I hope you can continue to improve people's lives!
Georgia Tech is a heart of Engineering.🎉🎉🎉
I'd rather hear the noisy cicadas than the obnoxious music.
They had me until the sentence about how it could apply to robotics
Pissing androids, and the correct bathrooms for them to use debate, are the wave of the future.
Whut
oh, they pissin
IT TASTED LIKE SUGAR
😆😂🤣
Oh, they pissin alright!
Millions of $$$ that could have been spent on seniors and hard working Americans
Time you could have spent with seniors.
Hell does your money go?
I'm a senior AND a hard working American. We have learned so many useful things from the study of insects. Velcro was modeled after spider webs. Aluminum foil was invented for the space industry if I remember correctly but has been applied now for insulation also because it blocks both cold and heat. I approve of studies so long as there is no cruelty.
Tyler Mac look out
Just know Georgia Tech, I will be in your school.
Hey, um, guys? Why in the world is the line about robotics in there? That was kind of thrown in without any context. The burden of providing that context is on you guys, I was genuinely intrigued until I had to sit and figure out what this has to do with robots Has there been trouble with this area in robotics? Are the people studying the cicada Also into robotics? Make a connection for us please, otherwise great video:)
Hey, um, question asker? Why not try looking into soft robotics yourself and see if you can figure out on your own what the application might be?
Robots gotta pee too.
Tyler Mac what about them
Many things in technology and engineering have been inspired by the natural world. The fact that such small animals can urinate in such a way is intriguing because it implies there's a way for such a small object to produce a stream of fluid with that velocity. I can't think of what robots would exactly require being such a small size while emitting fluid in that manner - though some practical use may come of it eventually. This line was likely added in because these students are in a university that is focused on engineering. It's in the name: "Georgia Tech College of Engineering". I expect that the intended audience was other students at this school, hence the lack of context here.
I had no idea that cicadas urinated at all! My understanding is that they don't eat or drink once they reach adulthood, living only a few days or weeks to mate before dying. The fact that they urinate, and that billions of them are about to emerge and cover the land, makes this new discovery disturbing!
That was my understanding also for years, I guess, you live, you learn.
GRAB YOUR UMBRELLAS!!! ☔️ THEY ARE HERE!
Just know that soon I'll get a scholarship to Georgia Tech, and I'll major in Aerospace Engineering. See you there.
I was about to apply for the MS aerospace program at Georgia tech and this video popped up !
Hi I'm Arti I'm Interested 😊
I want that instrument cluster
That lever just behind the right side of the steering wheel might control distributor advance/retard. (My chance to play with Dad’s Model A was 60 years ago)
Did someone put in a synchronized 2nd and 3rd gear transmission or are you that good a driver?
Happy holidays Jackets 🐝
Aw yea
Promo`SM 🤤
💯♥️👍 From Russia.
👍👍👍
There's something to be said about students who go to GA Tech versus UGA. Tech students take their studies more seriously and the academic standards are quite high. I view a number UGA students as party animals and easily distracted from pursuing a decent education their parents had worked hard for. When I was in high school, the athletics director, the late Vince Dooley, had a lot of classes posted an open letter to aspiring young athletes, namely football, join their squad with very low scores of having a C or 2.0 or better to qualify. The late Father Ted Hesburgh, president emeritus of Notre Dame University, had a much higher standard for athletes to represent their school...B average or 3.2 or better...NO EXCEPTIONS! I'm sure there are a few hard working students at UGA who stand out, but one hardly ever hears about them as compared to aspiring star athletes goin into the pros.
Looser
I’m only 20 and I have major nerve damage on my left foot, meaning it’s always numb and makes it hard for me to walk or stand, I feel like I need something like this fr.
The greatest space traveler in history!
The satisfaction of a job well done is palpable
The fact that he flew The Shuttle is amazing.
I wish I could do that 💀💀💀👍👍
Do an unmasking like BGSU and Bluffton University🥰🥰
I wish there was an unmasking like BGSU and Bluffton University🥰🥰
These are from California? Only thing I learned is that we need to delete california. No scientific model needed.
I would give you all the money to build space shuttle 2.0. Trump would. Vote smart.
You have faster healthier brains. Just pray to love and invent the 21st century. Or old men will send all of us to WW3.
I am amazed
Absolutely mind blowing. Thank you for sharing!
